Roy Gross, the Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA announced that on Saturday, Sept. 4, detectives arrested Patchogue resident Reed Lewis, age 29, following an investigation into reports of an abused animal.
According to the SPCA, Lewis failed to provide necessary sustenance, including food and veterinary care, to his 3-year-old pit bull, “Princess.”
When investigators examined the dog, they found her to be severely underweight with her ribs and bones clearly visible and with pus coming from her eyes.
Princess was seized by the SPCA and is being treated at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter.
Lewis is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, Sept. 28 to respond to the animal cruelty charge.
Gross said that "animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County, please contact the Suffolk County SPCA.”
